Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Jiazhila of Quka, Hajia District, Gongjue County, Tibet Autonomous Region. It was named by Rao Rongbiao et al. in 1987.

Lithology and Thickness

The section is a clastic rock combination of feldspar quartz sandstone, quartz sandstone, and siltstone composed of variegated colors such as purple-red, yellow-green, blue-grey, and gray-black. The total thickness is greater than 1340 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Not bottomed out. Near Zeng Ziding, this group overlies the Ordovician system with angular unconformity. Regionally, coeval and "for graphics put above" the Malasongduo Fm; and regionally, the next older unit to both is the uppermost Xiayacun Andesite Fm.

Upper contact

Regionally, the next younger unit is the Xiariduo Fm of Anisian.

Regional extent

This formation is distributed between the south of Gongjue County in Tibet and the north of Mangkang Zongxi, between the Zigasi fault and the Jueyong-Mangkang fault. Coeval with Malasongduo Fm in nearby region.
